Sustainability
Driving towards a zero-carbon world

At Artemis Composites our mission is to offer high-performance lightweight solutions for high volume structural applications with the lowest carbon impact on the market.
We recognise the important role we play in creating a more sustainable future, and our innovative solutions are the catalyst to enable and accelerate decarbonisation of transport.

Sustainable supply chain

Our Crossfelt® technology enables us to process direct fibres without the intermediate steps of weaving or resin impregnation. We source direct fibres and resins locally and can choose suppliers with the lowest impact, and with relevant certifications such as ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). This reduces logistics for transport and refrigeration and removes problems of short shelf life and out life of materials. Our processes are flexible and can use a range of fibres, including natural fibres, and resins with bio-based or recycled content.

Passive factory

We are designing a Passive factory to minimise our environmental footprint even further. Using local building materials and Passivhaus standards of insulation, energy use will be minimised, with waste heat from our process and thermal mass regulation contributing to atmosphere control. A solar PV system will provide much of the electricity needed, with the rest sourced from a low carbon grid mix. AI factory management will include energy and impact monitoring and the building will be designed with care to maximise the health, well-being and efficiency of the team.

Resource efficient process

The Artemis Composites approach offers the minimum impact in production. The process uses no consumables and produces little or no scrap. Load path fibres and design optimisation minimise material use, while automated processing delivers parts that are right every time and designed for end-of-life recovery. The process is fully electrified to benefit from low carbon electricity. Inputs and outputs are monitored with IoT and combine, with continuous improvement, to achieve the lowest carbon footprint to meet your requirements.

Lightweight in use

Using Crossfelt® with automated fibre placement allows for highly optimised designs with fibres following primary load paths to create the lightest possible products. Lighter structural components translate to lower fuel consumption, or less batteries and electricity needed, or extended vehicle range – key factors in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. But that’s not all. Artemis Composites enables these lightweight parts to be processed rapidly, at high quality and low cost – ensuring that weight reduction becomes more widely adopted.

Circular by nature

At Artemis Composites we work with partners to ensure that parts are designed for optimum material recovery, as well as to integrate recycled materials into products, such as using recycled carbon fibre felts in the Crossfelt® process. Carbon fibre can be separated from resins without degradation, and advanced recycled fibre processing means that we can integrate recycled fibres back into the process. Natural fibres reinforcements such as flax and hemp and bio-based resins can also be used – working with nature to bring the materials full circle.

People at the heart of progress

Artemis Composites promotes a dynamic and inclusive workplace that fosters well-being and innovation. We collaborate with universities and our supply chain to support research and are active in local skills development, as well as investing in training for our own staff.
Health and family life are a priority and we enable flexible and home working as well as actively supporting sports, leisure and social meet-ups outside work.
Safety in our operations is central to our values. We go beyond compliance with regular training, monitoring and well-defined procedures which contribute to a safe, healthy workplace.

Sustainability
at the heart of governance

At Artemis Composites we recognise that a successful sustainability strategy must be driven from the leadership, as well as enabling each employee to take a role in seeking continuous improvement. We set strategic direction which intertwines sustainability, finance and technical development, leading to a robust business strategy which is continuously assessed to address risks and opportunities related to climate and nature.

Certifications
we’re working
towards

Quality and environmental management contribute to reducing scrap, saving energy and maintaining a cost-effective product and we want to demonstrate that our social and environmental commitments are robust, well-founded and transparently tracked.
We are working towards the following certifications:

ISO 9001 Quality
management systems

AS/EN 9100 Quality management for aerospace markets

B Corp certification to demonstrate our commitment to upholding high standards of social, environmental, and operational performance

ISO 14001 Environmental management systems

IATF 16949 Quality management for automotive markets

ISCC PLUS certification of our Crossfelt® technology, proving our commitment to manufacturing a product that meets the highest standards of environmental responsibility
